My favorite chapter

Hi guys, and welcome back to my blog :)

We're already in chapter 15 and therefore at the end of our book :(

Let's start with a summary of chapter 13, 14 and 15.

Chapter 13:
We're back in the present, and Sam slams with his skateboard and needs to go to the hospital. His mum thinks, that he needs to stop skating, because it's better for his future with Alicia. He also finds out that his mother is pregnant.

Chapter 14:
Sam is skating when his mum runs to him to tell him, that Alicia has contractions and she'll give birth. On 12 september Rufus is born. After childbirth the two grandmothers have a discussion about the family name.

Chapter 15:
Rufus is at home and Sam goes to Alicia, he lives now with her. But his mum isn't entirely happy with it.

Now my favorite chapter:

I've decided to choose chapter n°9 as my fovorite chapter.
Chapter 9 deals with Sam's fear of his following life with the baby and the publication from Alicia's pregnancy in both families.

Alicia is prgnant and hasn't yet told anyone. She wants to keep the baby and decides to tell the parents the next day. The reactions of the adults are very similar. They are disappointed, sad and angry. In the end they understand that it is very important to stick together as close as possible in this situation. Nevertheless Alicia wants to leave the parental home and Sam realizes that he has to be responsible even if he does not like to.

Sam don't know how to handle with this situation and how he could help Alicia. This chapter is my favorite one because I think it's intresting to read about the feelings of Alicia and Sam and the reaction of the parents in this situation.

Quotes:
"Do you want to know the results of the pregnancy test?" (p.123, line 29)
"I think I can guess" (p. 124, line 1)

"Do your mum and dad want to kill me?" (p. 124, line 11)
"God, I haven't told them", she said. "I was hoping you'd do that with me." (p. 124, line 13)

"Can you do me favour?" she said. "When we talk about this, can you say "we"?" (p.124, line 29/30)

"But what are we going to do wizh a baby?" (p, 126, line 14)
"What are we going to do with it? Look after it. What else can you do with it?"(p, 126, line 15/16)

"Will Alicia's mum and dad actually attempt to attack me? Physically? It wasn't only my fault." (p. 135, line 20/21)

"Do you hate us?" said her mum suddenly. (p. 139, line 31)

"Thirty-two. So she was sixteen when you were born" (...) "Don't you people ever learn anything?"
(p.141, line 21/23)

"Of all the things you could do. All the ways you could hurt me." (p. 144, line 4/5)

In the end a few questions I would like to ask the author Nick Hornby:

(The author of slam: Nick Hornby)

How has he come on this story?
Has he gained own experiences with this topic?
Is there an altanative end?
Is there an continuation?
Where does he knows so many details from?
Why does TH and skating plays such a big role?

Hope you like it :)
See you guys,
Julie <3

  1. Dear Julie,
first of all, you are very good at summing up big chapters without forgetting important info's. I agree with chapter 9 as favorite, but I'd like to know why you've chosen this one. What are your personal thoughts? By the way, you've made a few spelling and grammar mistakes, but I'm sure you just were in a hurry (: I LUV your blog, carry on♥

  2. Dear Julie,

I really can understand why you chose this chapter as your favourite chapter. Maybe you can write a little bit more about why you chose it, but it's okay:)

Your questions to Nick Hornby are good. I thought about some o that while I was reading the book.

    Love, Alina
